Built at the turn of the nineteenth century, this graceful and storied old dame was bought by the Dutch Bank and Credit Union for South Africa - what we know now as Nedbank. This was the first Nedbank building in Cape Town, and remained an old bank, for the next 118 years until us at Lion Roars Hotels & Lodges took her over in 2020.
Built by W. Fagg and W. Black, both of Old Bank Hotel's original two architects had much in common. They were both young, both driven, both named William and both professionally trained in Australia. W. Black did his articles in Melbourne, and W. Fagg in Hobart, Tasmania. We have their firm, Black & Fagg, to thank for the many intricately detailed buildings that grace Cape Town and surrounds.
